We live near a “lake” called Cheat Lake in Northern WV. We are not boat owners because we know that we travel too often to use our own boat regularly. We still want that boat experience every now and again. We have looked into renting a boat on our lake, but on this particular weekend we were too late to reserve a boat because the marina was booked for the day.
Not to be deterred, we decided to drive the 45-50 minutes up the road to McHenry, MD. There is a large lake there called Deep Creek. McHenry is a great 4 seasons destination because besides the lake, there is a ski resort called Wisp Resort as well as other outdoor activities.
There is literally every outdoor adventure there that you could think of. From boating, to skiing, to hiking, to putt-putt, to mountain coasters, to whitewater rafting…. On this day, we decided to just catch an early dinner and rent a pontoon out on the lake. It was a BLAST as you can see from the pictures below.
If you ever find yourself in the deep creek area, we highly recommend checking it out.
We were able to rent a boat through Fun Time Water Sports. Their website is super easy to use and we rented the boat while we were sitting at dinner and less than an hour later we were there filling out the forms and picking up our boat. They had everything we needed…including a super small child life jacket for our tiny tot. Fun Time Water Sports gave us an orientation on how to use the boat and we were off. One of our favorite things about them was they allowed for a very short 1 hour rental. This is key with a toddler because you never know how long they will be able to stay interested in something. We will use Fun Time Water Sports again in the future.
